The WTFPL (Do What the Fuck you want Public License) is a very simple and extremely permisive free software license. The name is not very friendly, but the terms are simple and to the point.

[edit] Validity

According to Bradley Kuhn, who was Executive Director of the Free Software Foundation at the time of WTFPL's publication, “the FSF’s folks had to laugh and agree that ‘DO WHAT THE FUCK YOU WANT’ is a valid Free Software license” Though the FSF suggested an indemnity clause, they do recognise the WTFPL license as a valid license. [2][3] Most of the section on Validity was taken directly from the WikiPedia article with minimal editing.

[edit] WTHPL (What the Heck Public License)

In accordance with the terms of WTFPL version 2, I have created the following license. Given that I have only seen one main complaint about the WTFPL it is somewhat more userfriendly for many people.

 0. Just DO WHAT THE HECK YOU WANT TO.

[edit] Futher Notes

1. As per the notation in the Validity section, you might want to add an Indemnity clause somewhere in the notice. Basically and indemnity clause is just a notification that if something breaks, or if the code causes something to break, it is not your fault and they can't blame you.

2. I only made minor changes to the wording in order to produce the WTHPL, but in accordance with the terms of the original license (which the license itself was licensed under) I made the appropriate changes to the Title and Copyright information. The two licenses are, of course, completely intercompatible. You may freely substitute one for the other.

3. Please note that as the license currently stands it can be applied to almost any medium. It applies equally well to stories or photographs as it does to programs or scripts.

4. Feel free to make all the changes you want to the license itself, just make sure to change the name and copyright information if you do. After all, if you take the license and make it your own, it is just that. That is the main term of the license, you cannot attribute your changes to me.  :-) I didn't do it!

[edit] indemnity

Here is a suggested indemnity clause for use with the WTFPL. If you use the WTHPL, just modify it accordingly. Again, this was taken directly from the WTFPL home page.[1]

 * the extent permitted by applicable law. You can redistribute it
