[edit] Intro
A project of this nature is a massive undertaking, and in the long run cannot truly be thought of as a single project. For this reason, I have started to divide the project into several smaller parts.
Each of these projects will contribute something to the common whole, and most will be released under permissive open source licenses so that they can be used by the world at large.
[edit] Lib Game Pieces(lgp)
libgamepieces (or lgp) is a project geared towards creating the basic parts that would go into creating the basic underpinnings of a role playing game.
[edit] The Flora and Fauna of the Worlds
The Monster_List is an attempt at creating a list of creatures and monsters that are not copyrighted, are in the public domain, or have been released to the world under a license that permits commercial or noncommercial use. Much of the emphasis will be on creatures from folklore and the real world as they will be easiest to provide citations for.
[edit] The Game System
The page on Creating_A_GameSystem is devoted to developing a system that can be easily used for a computer generated world. One that can be tested in a table top environment could be useful as well.
[edit] The Ecology Engine
The EcoEngine project will be an attempt to simulate an ecological environment. This project itself will likely have to be broken down into smaller projects, and will also rely on the other projects for some of the pieces.
The EcoEngine will need to include weather patterns, growth patterns of plants and trees, migration patterns of wild animals, and the effects of civilization an agriculture on all of these.
[edit] Civilization
A Discussion on Economics will also be important in creating a realistic, smooth world.
Land and Property Ownership is also an important part of economics and is considered by many to be a mark of civilization.
Matters of Loyalty and Leadership will become important as well. When there is ownership of land, that land must be tended and protected. Player characters are truly heroic beings, but they cannot be all places at all times. This does not mean they cannot have networks of friends, allies, and even manipulated enemies doing their bidding throughout the world; or at least in their own kingdoms.
[edit] More to Come
The current form of this page is a starting draft. As the project grows, everything will take on more definition.
