A Cultural Note on the Naming of Cities and Villages
Most of the cities and towns on the continent of Acrose have a common set of prefixes attached to the names to describe them. Cities with the prefix 'Ar' such as ArNal, are capitols. A capital is simply a large city. Many capitols were at one point in time the head of a kingdom, or at least a merchant city. Cities with the prefix 'Tal' such as TalZan, and TalSarn, are smaller towns and cities. Villages don't usually have prefixes attached to their names. Not all cities follow this rule of course. A Prime example is the City State Maltier, which is also known by some of it's more proud residence, as the Damned City, because it is always at war, and many are convinced that it is doomed to stay as such for eternity.
The term capital, does not necessarily refer to a seat of political power. It generally refers to a large city. Although these cities do hold more political sway than smaller towns, They do not necessarily have any official ruling position within their region. They are however often the actual political capitals within their region.
